  1. Wow, this is a great, if too-brief article. Did you submit a pitch for an article, or were you approached by the magazine? I am a *failed* public educator who is branching out into writing for a living, and I am curious how this worked for you. Thanks in advance for your consideration, and keep up the good work!

    1. Hi Richasaurus. Sorry to be so long in getting back to you. Blog maintenance took a back seat to end-of-semester responsibilities! The story is this: I wrote to them a year ago suggesting that they should do a piece on math learning with kids, and that I would be happy to write such a thing. They wrote back to say that they had just published an education issue, but that they would keep me in mind. In August I started this blog (previous writings had been housed at Overthinking My Teaching). Someone at Minnesota Parent must have followed that development, because they wrote back in September to suggest the “Real Life” piece.

The piece I had hoped for would have been about how to talk math with kids. The piece I got was about me. But that’s better than nothing!

Feel free to shoot me a note through the About/Contact page if I can be of help with anything else!
